I’ve been riding on a very wonderful euphoric high that started sometime last night after I heard Senator McCain’s concession speech and knew that America had a new president. But I was snapped out of my trip down euphoria by this very rude awakening…
I am now beyond outraged! How could they?! Are we to join the ranks of Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia and every other rag-tag nation that uses religion to victimise and oppress women and children.
The Somalia I’ve been taught about is not a country which stones 13-year old gang-rape victims for adultery, while the rapists roam around free (and probably with pride)!
I can’t believe this that I’ve been sitting here angry and in between tears. May God Rest Her Soul in Peace. My deepest and sincerest condolences to her family. And may those who stoned her and her rapists Rot in Hell both in this life and in the hereafter. I’ve never cursed anyone, but this time I do!
I should stop this post here… I’m too upset to write coherently.
Calm down, AMTAF. It’s very important to hear what happened from the people who were involved or were present, not changing story lines from Amnesty. Please don’t misunderstand me, I’m in no way condoning what happened. I’m just a bit suspicious after I read the first story, which said the victim was a 23-year old woman who came forward to confess and asked for Sharia judgement on her own. Then the second story Amnesty released said the victim was a 13-year old who was raped. I’m not saying any of these could not have happened but I don’t believe even these fanatics would kill a rape victim. Let us remember that in Somalia only these religious fanatics have actually carried some justice, albeit very imperfect.
Amnesty’s “sources” have not been verified, even by the media so I just want to make sure what we’ve read is accurate and not a propaganda intended to demonize the Union of Islamic Courts.
I’m very horrified at the prospect of crazy people violating the Sharia for their narrow views in order to do evil deeds. Every scholar knows you can’t execute an adulterer in Islam. Only an adultery that results in pregnancy is even considered for the death penalty. If that is the case, the person has to come forward on their own to confess and ASK for death. Even then, the judge is required to ask the person to recant their confession for THREE times before the person’s confession is accepted by Sharia. Let us not forget that there also has to bee THREE witnesses that swear to see the act of intercourse took place before anything else is even considered.
You’re right in looking for other sources other than Amnesty, and there are plenty of them. I’ve researched on the story and for all intents and purposes it is legitimate.
However, you’re also right, Amnesty had initially misreported the age of the girl as 23 and was corrected by her father.
Anyways, usually on most days I am for the ICU (and I’m not sure how these men relate to them, if at all), but this hits a nerve. You’re getting into the legality of an issue which I doubt this men looked at. The people who did this, don’t really care whether it is Islamically correct or incorrect.
Let’s not forget that it was her father who thinking he will get help in finding justice went to them in the first place. Little did he know, his daughter would soon become a dead “adultress”…
I can’t even begin to imagine how her family is feeling right now, as I am still very angry about it.
I
On further look into the group that carried out the murder, they have no affiliation with UIC or Islam. They’re just another militia.
